Hermione Jean Granger was almost twelve years old when she boarded the Hogwarts Express for the first time. She is a muggle-born witch and she is in Harry's year. Hermione was sorted into Gryffindor House during the Sorting Ceremony upon arrival at Hogwarts. Hermione is first introduced on the train, helping Neville Longbottom to find his lost pet toad, Trevor. She had already read her textbooks and practiced some spells. She seems to be a bossy know-it-all, and does not immediately become friends with Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Only after an incident on Halloween, in which Harry and Ron saved Hermione from the troll that Professor Quirrell had let in, and she covered for them, they became best friends. Hermione was a very clever witch and helped Harry and Ron with their homework. She ended up marrying Ron, even though they often argued and fell out while at school. They had children, Rose and Hugo. Rose is starting her first year when the book ends.

In the Harry Potter films, Hermione was played by Emma Watson.

First year Edit

In the beginning of the year, Hermione was unpopular, with no friends at Hogwarts. She was known to help Neville Longbottom, but it was only after she, Ron, and Harry defeated a mountain troll together that she became friends with Ron and Harry.

Hermione's first year at Hogwarts ended with Harry, Ron, and her discovering the Sorcerer's (Philosopher's) Stone. She helped Harry and Ron with the Devil's Snare and with the Alohomora unlocking charm. She also helped Harry logically figure out Snape's potion and fire obstacle to help Harry save the Stone from Lord Voldemort.

Second year Edit

In Hermione's second year, she, Ron, and Harry brewed a Polyjuice Potion to determine if Draco Malfoy was Slytherin's heir. Harry and Ron turned into Crabb and Goyle, but her potion had contained Millicent Bulstrode's cat's hair, so she had to stay in the hospital wing for a while, but then she was Petrified by the basilisk after figuring out what it was. But because of a note in her hand Ron and Harry found out what the monster in the chamber was.

Third year Edit

In Hermione's third year, she had a very busy schedule and dropped Divination taught by Professor Trelawney,

because she thought she was a fraud. She punched draco in the face for something She used a Time Turner to get to all her classes. The Time Turner proved useful when she and Harry used it to save Buckbeak from being killed and to prevent Sirius Black form receiving the Dementor's Kiss because of crimes he did not commit. She gave the time turner in after dropping Muggle studies so she could have a normal timetable for her school schedule.

Fourth year Edit

In her fourth year, Hermione struck up a romantic relationship with Ron's idol, the famous Quidditch player, Viktor Krum on the Bulgaria team after being his dance partner at the Yule Ball (a traditional dance that goes along with the triwizard tournament). Hogwarts hosted the Triwizard Cup, and Viktor asked her to the Yule Ball on Christmas Eve. Ron got jealous and was angry at Hermione for "fraternizing with the enemy". Hermione wrote to Viktor Krum over the next summer. She helped Harry practice for the tasks of the Triwizard tournament.

Fifth year Edit

In her fifth year, they had a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher named Professor Dolores Jane Umbridge. Umbridge was a theory based teacher, so she never let the students use magic in her class. She acted sweet, but she had a dark undertone. Hermione had the idea to start Dumbledore's Army, where Harry would teach a group of students Defense Against the Dark Arts. We found out many of the other characters' Patronuses when Harry officially started the group. Hermione also helped Harry at the battle at the Department of Mysteries, during which she was struck by an unknown spell from a Death Eater.

Sixth year Edit

In Harry's sixth year, Hermione discouraged Harry from using a book written in by a mysterious character, the Half-Blood Prince. She was jealous when Harry was getting better grades with a new potion teacher, as the book contained secrets about potion recipes. Later they found out that the Half-Blood Prince was the current Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, Severus Snape. Hermione was jealous that Ron was with Lavender Brown, but hid it well. Hermione and the whole of Hogwarts were sad Professor Dumbledore died.

Seventh Year Edit

Harry, Ron, and Hermione did not attend school in their seventh year. Instead, they were on a quest to find, and destroy, all of Voldemort's Horcruxes. They travelled constantly and Hermione's skill and cleverness was sometimes the only thing keeping them from getting caught. They infiltrated the Ministry of Magic and retrieved Slytherin's locket from Umbridge. She was responsible for casting the hex that broke Harry's phoenix feather wand, that shared a core with Voldemort's, thus causing Harry to believe he had lost an edge against Voldmort. She was also tortured by Bellatrix Lestrange at Lucas Malfoy's house. Hermione battled against Bellatrix Lestrange with Ginny and Luna Lovegood during the battle at Hogwarts. Hermione returned to Hogwarts to take her N.E.W.Ts. Nineteen years after Voldemort's death, Hermione and Ron Weasley are married. They have two children, Rose and Hugo. She begins her post-Hogwarts career by working in the Department for the Regulation and Control Of Magical Creatures, where she is instrumental in greatly improving the lives of house-elves; she later moves higher up in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement while ensuring the eradication of oppressive pro-pureblood laws. Rowling stated in a webchat that Hermione found her parents in Australia and relieved them of the memory charm she had placed on them.
